Hi, I'm Luke, a carpenter, builder and home renovator based in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.
I began my career working on grade-II listed buildings where I learnt the fundamentals of the building industry, beginning with demolition, roof repairs and dry-walling, before developing my skills as a first-fix chippy while I progressed through my City & Guilds qualifications.
Over the course of three busy years, I repaired joists, erected partition walls, and laid structural flooring. Working under the tutelage of a former furniture-maker, I soon graduated to hanging doors and trim, developing my expertise in the world of finish carpentry, where I could draw on my meticulous eye for detail.
Since then, I have worked on developments in and around Sheffield, turning my hand towards all manner of jobs, from brickwork to plastering, discovering a love of tiling and kitchen fitting along the way.
I have made it my personal mission to learn everything there is to know about residential property and help you to add value, style and comfort to the place you call home. I am now delighted to be offering my skills and expertise to private customers in the Chesterfield area.

Doors
An accomplished craftsman, I specialise in hanging and adjusting doors, installing furniture, architraves and thresholds, all with the highest degree of accuracy.
Finishing
Crisp lines and uniform finishes - these I can guarantee. I am happy to turn my attention to skirting boards, picture rails and dado rails, tasks where the details really matter.
Tiling
I am proficient at tiling floors and walls, and am able to refit bathrooms and kitchens, bringing a superior finish to a wide variety of home refurbishment projects.
First-fix Carpentry & Renovations
I am happy building walls, ceilings and floors. Given my experience, I am also confident dry-walling, insulating or decorating; anything to get the job done!
2024 Pricing
Finish & Trim Carpentry:
Internal hollow door into old frames (including furniture: hinges, handles, latches, catches) - £80
Internal solid-core door into old frames (including furniture) - £100
Hardwood or veneered internal door into old frames (including furniture) - £120
Fire door into old frames (including furniture and closer) - £140
External door into old frames (including furniture) - £200-300 (to be negotiated)
For all locking doors, add £10
Trimming and adjusting existing doors, in order listed above - £30 / £40 / £50 / £60 / £90-120
Internal door frame and stop - £80
Fire door frame and stop - £120
For intumescent strips, add £60
External door frame and stop - £180
External door threshold replacement - £120
Architraves - £40/door
Skirting boards - £16/m to fit onto cleared, prepped walls (~£250 for 4m x 4m room)
Picture/dado rails - as above
Interior Tiling:
Ceramic tiles, onto clean, flat, clean walls or floors - £50/m²
Porcelain tiles, as above - £70/m²
Glass, granite and marble tiles, as above - £120/m²
For herringbone, mosaic and patterned designs, add £25/m²

For these jobs, where both design and finish are paramount, it can be a challenge to provide costings at the outset. I often find it's best to work a few hours to get an idea of the duration of the project, after which I can provide a more accurate time estimate, based on my specialist rate of £30/hour (or 210/day).
This is subject to change if unforeseen circumstances crop up, which I will make you aware of as the project progresses.
